Ok so I've decided on wheels unless Atara Racing starts being responsive. I preordered the wheels two months ago and was told that they would be hear by the end of August but now the US supplies is telling me he has no idea when they will actually arrive because the contact at Atara has been pretty quiet.
This is just aggravating as a consumer and makes me think less of the brand as they had everyone wait months for wheels then BAM no dice. I understand it's still not August however with no update or even a picture of the gold color option I chose I will most likely get something made right here in the USA . MericA !
So now my question to you oppo is what tires should I be using or what are my options. First hand experience is preferred.
keep in mind :
I daily drive the car .
It doesn't rain / snow in austin much.
The car has a 5.3 swap and T56 so I need grip.
SIZE : 215 - 295 on a 15" wheel that will be 10-11" wide.
123 Go !

BIG fan of Dunlop Direzza ZII here. Partly because it's the only real performance tire I can obtain in 185 60R14, but...

Doubtless there will be a throng saying "Michelin Pilot SuperSports", so I'll just say it now and avoid the rush.

What size? I would go with the Pilot Supersports, Bridgestone RE050 Continental extremecontact DW or if you want something more affordable I would say the mickey thompson street comps - great tire for the price. I'm speaking only from the HP summer tires I've had. In that order.

Much more affordable than the Michelin Pilot Supersports too.. I'll have to compare the two closer.

I like the Mickey T brand as I grew up at the drag strip . Any down falls of that tire ?

Nope. I also only have second-hand experience with the Mrs. Paul's Super Sticks, but it's enough that I know it's one of *the* tires if one needs performance.
That being said, the dunlops are probably already overkill for your application.

You are going to have a tough time finding a good performance tire in that size. 15" wheels get mostly drag tires these days.

I got a set of Cooper Zeon RS3-S on my GTI earlier this year. They've been a lot of fun and are very reasonable on price.

It's pretty much Hoosiers unless you want to go down to a 225. 15's cut the pool significantly.

I used and loved the Direzzas for a couple of autocross season (I even ran their predecessors before that). They are an excellent performance tire; however, Dunlop is releasing the ZII star spec later this year as an update/replacement so the Direzzas are out of production and selections are starting to get sparce.
The BFG rivals would be a decent alternative, if you can find the right size (Hankook rs3 is a great autocross tire but the don't work as well in the rain as the Direzzas or rivals).
Tires are super task specific, so it also depends what you want to do with the car. 15x10/11 wheels might be hard to find rubber for, you will either need a healthy sidewall (>50 series) or wide section width (>265).

They need to be warm for sure, I had them on until about November here in CO and had to swap them out for the all seasons I have now. Probably not a problem for you in Houston. They aren't usually sold through the normal tire channels so you have to go through Summit or something to find them in the right size, can't just buy them off the shelf.
Some brand snobs don't like MT for some reason either lol.
Other than that they have great wet/dry traction for the price, wear very well and are very quiet.

I have a set of Yokohama S Drives on my E30 and love them. Price was decent, wear has been good, great grip, plus I love that it has a protruding lip that protects my rims from curb rash.
Also have a set of Dunlop Direzza DZ101s on my LGT - grip is good but there's just something about the tire I'm not a fan of - maybe it's the noise. It's definitely no Z1.
Just a matter of how much you're looking to spend, really I think.

My brother had built up a beautiful 280Z that he'd been given by my uncle. SBC inside and he completely rebuilt the car from the ground up. Makes me really want one myself, but I would never have the patience to (or the space) to do that myself. This has become one of my favorite cars. Keep it up, it looks awesome!

Um, this is not 1 tire size.
Are you saying you're running a 215 width tire in front and 295 in rear?
Because a tire size is like 295/50-15 where you have width, series (sidewall height) and rim diameter.

Ok, well a 215 tire on a 10" wide wheel is going to be super extra stancebro stretched.
Which...just say no.
Are you particularly hung up on 15" wheels? Because the widest 15" street tires are all 225/45-15 street-tire-class autocross tires like the Hankook RS-3 v.2, BFG Rival, and Toyo R1R.
Anything wider is either a) racing slicks, b) truck tires, or c) non-performance car tires with super tall sidewalls.

sarcasim? its a cobalt ss on a e47 tune pointless power i cant use... my friend drives a 5.3 swap rx7 fc with a t56 and runs these better and cheaper then most of the sub $120 tire range just depends on price. im in oklahoma so like you in austin we can run summer tires year round . i was skeptical of a cheap asian brand but pulled the trigger on 2 to test in 235 40 r18 and havent let me down but FWD traction is not the same as RWD traction lol good luck on your selection

No I was serious .. the first tuner car I had was a Spec - V SE-R Sentra then a GSR Hatch and a LS Integra with a JDM Type R front end. Back then 370 out of a fwd wasn't done very often with a cobalt now you've got your basic bolt ons and a tune makes you big boy power . I know a bud or two who's in OK . DragonballZ is one of the cars and he does A LOT of autocross but runs expensive hoosier tires.
